Ginger Shot
Growing up in Haiti, Ginger was an everyday household staple. Te Jenjanm (Haitian Ginger Tea) is used to treat all ailments and is served at many family functions. The aroma of this strong tea is the first thing that hits you when you make your morning round to the house of your relatives to wish them a Happy New Year, which coincides with Haiti’s Independence Day! Even now, I still brew a strong pot of jenjanm at the first sign of a cold.
However, the ginger shot trend completely escaped me until a trip to Copenhagen this summer. The powerful concoction was featured on the menu of every health-conscious café I visited. Although ginger is only now becoming popular in the west, many cultures, including Bali (Jamu), Haiti (Te Jenjanm), and India (Adrak chai ), have been using Ginger for its natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant to treat digestion and nausea.

This 5-ingredient wellness shot is packed with powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory benefits, and vitamin C to boost immunity and metabolism. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Curcumin, the main active ingredient in turmeric, has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and strong antioxidants (source). It has been used in India in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for conditions such as breathing problems, joint pain, fatigue, digestive issues, and more. (source)
- Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant known to aid digestion and relieve nausea. (source)
- Lemons are naturally detoxifying and alkalizing in the body and contain a high amount of vitamin C, soluble fiber, and plant compounds that have a host of health benefits. Lemons may help with weight loss and reduce your risk of heart disease, anemia, kidney stones, digestive issues, and cancer. (source)
- Oranges are high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant compounds, which can aid in promoting healthy immune function. (source).
- Black pepper contains piperine, a natural substance that boosts the absorption of turmeric by up to 2,000%. (source)

We use this brand of turmeric in our ginger shots. Use it also to make our deliscious Golden Milk (Turmeric Latte).
You may also need:
- A higher powered blender
- A sieve/strainer
Disclaimer:
The dose of ginger in this ginger shot may be unsafe for pregnant women. Ginger shots are said to be a safe and natural way to treat nausea and morning sickness during pregnancy, with no known risks to the baby, but some experts caution against higher doses of ginger while trying to conceive or during pregnancy as it could increase the risk of miscarriage.
No time to make your own ginger shot, we recommend these pre-made organic ginger shots.
